Hello,
What are the advantages of the NI DAQmx drivers
versus older NI DAQ drivers
versus typical DAQ drivers of Third-Party Hardware ?
Background: For an instrumentation project, I have the choice to select either
NI PCI-4351
http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/de/nid/1867
with cable
http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/de/nid/11797
and with external device
http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/de/nid/2929
which is 10+ years old, and which NOT shipped with current-generation DAQmx drivers.
In another message
versus
M-Series
http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/de/nid/201761
with external box
http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/de/nid/10778
with cable
http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/de/nid/201628
and with RTD modules
http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/de/nid/12311
which is shipped with current DAQmx drivers.
And are there differences in features ( I need the "continous data aquisition mode", not the "block mode")?
In another message, the drivers of the old NI L-series are called "traditional legacy daq drivers". Is the NI PCI-4351 shipped with such drivers too ?
And whats the problem or drawback of these old driver generations, in comparison to the new DAQmx standard ?
How does the user experience the old legacy versus the new standard DAQmx ?
And in comparison to typical third-party (non NI) hardware which is shipped with own drivers,
what are the benifits of NI DAQmx drivers which are sometimes missing with third-party drivers for third-party hardware ?
Any other reason besides the price, to take the old card ( the project is $90.000, so no price effect )
, or any serious reason to take the newer card ?
The card will run in a W2k or WinXP system, no need for Vista.
Btw, do the current DAQmx drivers work with Microsoft Vista ?
Might it be that "NI PCI-4351" will never work with Microsoft Vista?
Sincerely
Rolf Hemmerling
