WARNING: Do not install NIDAQmx Ver.7.4 w/ WinXP

After updating my NI-DAQ to the version currently available on the downloads section (7.4), this PC will not boot to Windows XP after logging in. My first indication of trouble is the following error:

nipalsm.exe
The instruction at "0x7c9111de" referenced at "0x11d9dfe8". The memory could not be "read".

After this, I get the following Windows alert:

Windows Product Activation
A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code 0x80004005

If anyone has seen this or if anyone knows why this may be occuring please reply. In the meantime, I caution anyone from downloading the NI-DAQ 7.4 from NI's site. I am currently uninstalling it (a rather long process). I'll post here if I can successfully have the cards installed and log back into the system with the drivers that came with the card - NI-DAQ 7

tbihn,

I assure you that our drivers are fully tested on all operating systems we support. It sounds like your installation of the driver was somehow corrupted. If you can get back into Windows, which it sounds like you can, please remove all NI drivers. You can do this by selecting "National Instruments Software" in Add/Remove Programs and then "Change." Once all drivers have been removed, you should no longer see the NI-PAL entry in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) under "My System" -> "Sofware." At this point, please reinstall NI-DAQ 7.4. You may even want to try downloading it again in case the download itself was corrupt. Please reply to this thread if this does not work for you.

I got a similar error when installing 7.3. What I did was first install NIDAQmx without any other drivers, and it worked fine. Then I needed the traditional NIDAQ driver as well, and after installing that I got the error when asked to reboot. I had to go back to a previous restore point in Windows XP, and then I uninstalled all NI, and reinstalled both in the same go. So something can go wrong...

RESOLUTION FOUND:

The NI PCI-GPIB card was replaced and I now can log onto Windows again (with the 7.4 drivers installed). If you run into similar issues, check to ensure any NI PCI card made in Hungary is not causing your problem. (This card was made in Hungary.)

tbihn,

What version of the 488.2 driver do you have? Perhpas you could try upgrading to the latest (currently 2.3).
