Use counter for RPM measurement?

I am using LABView 6.1, NI-DAQ 3.0.2.3005 on a Windows XP system. I have a AT-MIO-16E-10 and want to use the Timer/Counter input to measure the RPM of a cooling fan. I can test the AT-MIO-16E-10 in NI-DAQ and the Timer/Counter function tests fine. I cannot however set up a Timer/Counter virtual channel in order to use this in LABView, since there is no option for this in NI-DAQ. Am I missing a part of NI-DAQ, or am I trying to do something that is not possible? Any advise or information would be appreciated!

Because 3.0.2 is as version number not available i think this is the version of your Measurement &Automation Explorer (MAX). Thats a version comming with NI DAQ 7.1. Your board the AT -MIO 16E-10 is only supported by the traditional DAQ part of this driver.
Please check in MAX a right mouse click on "Datenumgebung" to get the context menue. Now choose new >> virtual channel. This is the channel configuration wizzard for traditional daq.
if this Tool isn´t available check in Control panel >> Software >> National Instruments the Traditional DAQ 7.x entry and use repair option to repair this Software part.
Hope that helps.
