The USB-6008 appears under the Standard Open HCD USB Host Controller, and not under the Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller. It doesn't say "USB2" anywhere that I can see.

As Seth suggested, have you tried another USB 2.0 device? Does it show up under the Enhanced host controller?

Shot in the dark..
Any chance your BIOS is an EFI bios?.. I have the exact same problem on 12 iMacs running NiDAQmx 9.1 and I suspect it is because there is a problem with the driver and the EFI bios the Macs use. (I'm running BootCamp, which should allow the iMacs to run Win7 natively, but I guess there could be something there)..

Matt W, the only other USB 2.0 device I had on hand is a memory stick, and it does not complain about "This device can perform faster." But I have not looked at the Device Manager to see how it connected. I will look at that.
Dave Crabbe, I don't think it's an EFI BIOS, I think it's an Award BIOS. But I'm still at work and can't look at it right this minute--tonight I will check.

Tonight I had a chance to plug a USB 2.0 thumb drive into a port. It does not report "This device can perform faster," and it does appear in the Device Manager under the Enhanced Host Controller. And as you can see below, the USB-6008 does not.

Dave Crabbe,
Mine is a Phoenix AwardBIOS. Sorry, no EFI.

What version of DAQmx is installed on each computer? Are they very different versions? Also, bigger pictures would be better in the future, those two are kind of hard to make out.

Matt W.,
My home computer, where the "Device can perform faster," has DAQmx 8.9.5f6. My work computer, where it seems to work as expected, has DAQmx 8.9.5f5.

Hi Edward,
Since the 6008 is a bus-powered device, one possible cause of this behavior would be if the PC cannot provide enough power over USB to support the full bandwidth of USB 2.0 (a USB DAQ device is going to draw much more current than an external flash drive).
Assuming you have tried multiple USB ports already, I would suggest to try using an externally-powered USB Hub which should hopefully fix the issue if this is indeed the problem.
Best Regards,

We have a solution. As John P suggested, I connected the USB-6008 through an externally powered USB Hub, and the problem went away.
Many thanks to all who replied with suggestions.
