Trying to upgrade from 2K to XP

Hi,

I already have a LabView system configured (LV version 7.0 and DAQ card PCI-6033E with a connector block SCB-100) in WIN2K environment. I have different LV programs, some configured for Traditional DAQ and some for NI-DAQmx. Both work fine.

Now I want to format that PC and upgrade it to WIN XP (corporate policy:(). What are all the issues that I must take care of. To be on the safe side, I am setting up another test PC to work in the same environment. I have already done the following:

1. I installed LV version 7.0 on the test machine.
2. Downloaded the latest drivers for XP (both for traditional and XP for 6033E, have'nt installed them yet on the test PC).
3. Exported the MAX configuration for my application from my present PC to a CD which I will transfer to the test machine.

When this is done, I will connect the DAQ card to the test machine to test for data acquisition. Are there any issues that I am overlooking besides these?

Please advice.

Thanks,
Sachin

Sachin,

It sounds like you have everything covered.

Just to play it safe,  I would make sure you have your MAX configuration written down for reference.  I realize you exported the settings, but you should still write them down just in case.

Other than that, everything should be fine.

Hi Lorne,

Thanks for the re-assurance. Anyways, I managed to successfully test the set-up as I wanted to, in the XP environment. Just for the record:

In MAX, when I say 'File' --> 'Export', MAX saves only the NIDAQmx configuration. To save the Traditional DAQ configuration, you have to go to 'Tools' --> 'Traditional NI-DAQ Configuration' --> 'Save Configuration As...'

Now, on the new machine, to import the configuration, I say 'File' --> 'Import', MAX imports only the NIDAQmx configuration. To import the Traditional DAQ configuration, you have to go to 'Tools' --> 'Traditional NI-DAQ Configuration' --> 'Set Active Configuration...'

One more small example to prove why NI-DAQmx rules over Traditional NI-DAQ.

-Sachin
