Thermocouple Noise with PCI-6230

Solved!
Go to solution

What noise level should be expected for a K-type thermocouple used with a PCI -6230 DAQ and a CB-37F-HVD breakout board? I am reading the data in with LabVIEW and the Daq Assist module on the thermocouple setting and seeing noise of +/- 1°C. For a K-type thermocouple 41uV/°C is 3 times the expected noise (13 uVrms) of the 6230 if it is running in +/- 0.2 Full Scale. I feel that there should be more stable measurements or is this normal behavior?

This level of noise is expected. To improve, you could use a card with a noise filter. A dedicated thermocouple module would also work but this would include a noise filter as well.
