How can the device name for an NI USB-6008 or 6009 be permanently changed? Will this name change stay with the DAQ device or just be local to the computer the name was changed on?
If you change it from 'Dev1' (or whatever number it had been assigned) on one computer, and you plug it into another computer, it will enumerate as 'Dev1' (or the next number in sequence).
If you are moving the DAQ between different computers, what I've done in the past is to look for the serial number of the device then determine the local name from that. The name will change but the serial number is unique to the hardware.
