PCI 6052E and SCXI 1001 (thermocouple scaling)

I am replacing the old PCI 6220 with a new PCI 6052E

 

My settings as follows:

PCI 6052E connected to SCXI-1001 using NI cable.

Thermocouples connected to SCXI-1102 and accessory SCXI-1303

 

I configured virtual task to read the thermocouple temperature, Setting:

K thermocouple

CJC: builtin

signal input range: 0-300

scaled unit: deg C

 

but when I test the input I am getting 4 volts which is translating to 599 degrees

however when I switch back to the old card I am reading 0.004 volts and the correct temperature where every thing is the same except the PCI.

 

So what am I missing to get the thermocouple to scale properly?

That is certainly odd. Let start by checking the simplest aspects of your settings. Are you using any custom scaling in MAX? Are you sure you are not using an simulated version of the PCI 6052E in MAX? Do you have a multimeter to check that you are not feeding 4 V in? 4 V is a really high voltage for a thermocouple measurement.

I am not using any custom scaling, and not using simulated version of the card, since it is intalled in the computer and recognized by MAX.

 

what I am exactly doing is replacing the computer and upgrading the DAQ card.

 

old computer has PCI 6220

new computer has PCI 6052E

 

all the connection and configuration is the same, when I am connected to the old computer every thing is working well, however when I connect the new computer I am reading high voltag i.e. the same channel will read something like 0.0039 on the old computer and it will read 4 on the new computer, so it looks like some scaling is missing somewhere.

How are you reading your values? In LabVIEW? On a Test Panel in MAX? Signal Express? This might seem unrelated, but something that I would do is to swap PCI slots to see if there is any hardware problem. How are you connecting your thermocouple? Can you measure a battery with a known voltage to test your 6052E?

Thanks for getting back to me.

I am reading the values on a test panel in MAX. Unfortunately there is not any other PCI slot available, and since the card is reading and writing digital points I assume the PCI slot is good.

the thermocouples are connected to SCXI-1102 module with SCXI-1303 accessory on SCXI-1001 chassis and then the SCXI-1001 is connected to the PCI 6052E card using NI cable. 

 

Currently I do not have the equipment to test the voltage on the 6052E but if I get them how would you connect the battery to the card.

I believe it would be worthwhile if you look at the following Knowlege Base:

I think the problem might be on the side of the SCXI chassis and not your PCI card.

 

As far as the battery, this is just so that you have a known voltage so that you can measure it with your terminal block. Just use a test panel in MAX and connect the battery differentially across two terminals on the Terminal Block.
