NI-DAQmx - creating virtual channel - no supported devices found

I am very new to LabVIEW... so this is probably a very easy problem to solve.
I'm having trouble creating a new virtual task/channel.  I am using LabVIEW 8.0.  Using DAQ Assistant Express VI - when the DAQ Assistant launches to create a new task, I am selecting "Analog", then "Voltage" and then the supported physical channels tab comes up with -- no supported devices found.
I have the latest updates from NI.com.  Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hello inrut,
Do you have any NI Data Acquisition Hardware?  The DAQ Assistant will display NI Data Acquisition HW in the dialog box you described.  However, if you would like to test the software w/o hardware, you can create a NI-DAQmx Simulated device.  Simulated devices will show up in the DAQ Assistant so you can perform data acquisition as if the hardware was actually present in the system.  To create a simulated device, go to Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), and right-click on the Devices and Interfaces folder.  Select NI-DAQmx Simulated Device and follow the wizard.  This KB might be helpful as well:  What are NI-DAQmx Simulated Devices and How Do I Use Them?  Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help.  That was the solution to my problem.  I had no devices selected or configured in the Measurement & Automation Configuration.  I tried to do the same thing using the NI-DAQ Quick Start Guide, but had no success.  The guide MIS-guides a person into right clicking on the Data Neighborhood icon instead of the Devices and Interfaces icon to create a new virtual device.  Thanks again.
