Mount cRIO with magnets

I'm considering mounting 4 strong permanent magnets to the rear of metal cabinet that contains cRIO with 9236 card.  Any concerns / experience with magnetic fields effecting the NI hardware or the signals?  In the technical documentation I have only seen reference to 'time-varying magnetic fields', which I think mounting magnets are not.  Thanks - Jesse

Hi Jesse,

Thanks for posting on the NI Discussion Forums to get advice on your cRIO mounting! In general, I think it wouldn't be recommended to mount strong magnets near your RIO, particularly 4 of them. However, to be fair, I don't have any particular experience of this affecting your measurements. If you have to mount all of your hardware in the same cabinet, I would recommend separating them as much as possible.

As far as the actual specs of the card, the NI 9235/9236 manual discusses the Electromagnetic compliance, which is as follows -

"This product is designed to meet the requirements of the following standards of EMC for electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use: • EN 61326 EMC requirements; Industrial Immunity • EN 55011 Emissions; Group 1, Class A • CE, C-Tick, ICES, and FCC Part 15 Emissions; Class A "

I would start here to see if the strength/field characteristics of your magnets fall into the above compliance ranges. Additionally, I'm curious which cRIO you were planning to use, as we could look into the specifications of that card in particualry for more information.

Hope this helps!
