Help with a USB-6009

Hello!  I am a Lehigh Unviersity undergrad working on a DAS to collect various readings from thermocouples that monitor a air pollution control system.  I wrote the VI on a PC and while working on the PC plugged in my two USB-6009 devices...they were recongnized, installed, and appeared not only in the device manager but also in the DAQ Express signal selection screen.  However, the company I am working for prefers to use Macs, so they asked me to transfer LabVIEW over to Windows XP that would run on the Parallels 3.0 engine on a new Mac Mini.  I was able to edit the VI with ease and everything was going smoothly until I tried to run tests from this computer.  When I plug in the devices they are both recognized and Windows goes through its usual "install new hardware" sequence.  After a few moments it claims to be sucessful and both devices show up in the device manager.  However, they do not show up in LabVIEW when I try to assign the signals to their respective graphs and whatnot.  Furthermore, when  I plug both of them in after having installed them an error message comes up.  This  happens even if I uninstall and reinstall the devices.  I don't particularly understand why this is happening because I had my VI running quite well on a PC just a few weeks ago.  I was thinking that this may be a parallels issue, but Parallel's asks me if I want to use the USB devices in the Windows parallel to which I respond "ok".

I am running the LabVIEW ed. 8.0.1.  I have the DAQmx 8.0.1 package installed but no other updates as of yet.  This is on a Mac-mini with OSX and Parallels version 3.0.  If anyone has any input as to why this is happening or suggestions on how to fix this that would be of great help.  Thank you!

Hi Dustin,

Thank you for posting on the National Instruments forums.  Parallels is not officially supported by National Instruments, but it is possible that you can get it to work.

The first thing you want to make sure of is that you installed everything in the correct order.  Start with installing LabVIEW, then install the DAQmx drivers and finally plug in the hardware.  Then I would check is to make sure that the device shows up in the Device Manager as a Data Acquisition Device when you plug it in.  If you are able to get it to show up there, then check in the Measurement and Automation Explorer and make sure you can see the device there.

When the device shows up in the Measurement and Automation Explorer, LabVIEW will be able to use the device.

There might be something you have to do in Parallels to make sure that the USB-6009 shows up correctly in Windows, but I am not familiar enough with Parallels to tell you what that is if that is the issue.  If you run into any issues with this step, please post them here.  I will try to help you, but I can't guarantee a solution.

Thank You,
