DAQCard 6062E Can it be installed into a desktop PC with an adapter?

Is there an adapter that goes from PCMCIA to the PCI bus or USB that would make it possible to use the DAQCard 6062E on a desktop PC running Windows XP. The laptop I was using is now dead.

Hi,

If you go to google and search for "pcmcia to pci" you will find a bunch of products. I just did that and found some different ones. I will leave it up to you find the right price and such. There is nothing that I found to convert PCMCIA to USB. I am pretty sure that is because of the way each form factor communicates with each other.

I hope that helps. Have a Great Day!

I too am considering using a PCMCIA device with a PC, but do not want to give up a PCI slot in my motherboard (else I'd just get a PCI DAQ).

I think I may have found a PCMCIA to USB adapter...however are there any issues LabView would have communicating with the device through these two different formats? (Data rates/transfer/etc..)

Hi,

The only device that I could find for PCMCIA to USB, was a PCMCIA card that had two USB ports on it. This would solve the problem of being able to use the PCMCIA DAQ card on a USB slot. If there is another device that you have found, please past the url so I can take a look at it.

Thanks,

George

Hi,

Also, if you don't want to use a PCI slot, then you could always just get one of our USB devices instead of trying to convert a PCMCIA card. The USB devices can be found here:

I hope this helps,

The PCMCIA to USB device was found here... http://www.amtron.com/adapter/upisdma.htm

As you mentioned, the PCMCIA cards with USB jacks are popular for laptops. It's been a challenge to find the "opposite". It looks however like this can be used in a "PC mode".

I currently have an E series PCI card, which I'd like to replace with something smaller and/or external. Data acquisiton will still be through a PC using LabView.

The USB devices would seem to be a good alternative, however, upon browsing the boards here, it looks like some have had some troubles using DAQmx Base.

I was looking at the PCMCIA as an alternative, as I've used them in labtop acquisition settings before. The challenge here has been implementing this in a PC environment. The PCMCIA slots via PCI defeat my initial purpose, which is why I thought about trying to find a PCMCIA/USB adapter. However, if I'm going to do that...why not just go with a USB device? The only 'pro' for the PCMCIA cards right now is simply my previous familiarity with them.

Options options options!

Perhaps you can squelch my concerns about DAQmx Base? My experience has been mostly with Traditional DAQ, with a bit of DAQmx.

Hi,

Ok, first let's clear up some of the confusion:

There are some USB Devices that use DAQmx Base, and some that use DAQmx. Here is the comparison:

http://www.ni.com/dataacquisition/usb/hardware_comparison.htm

Now, I would suggest purchasing either the 6015 or 6016 (use DAQmx). These are the high performance multi-function DAQ that will have the same feature set that your PCI or PCMCIA card would have. With the low cost USB devices, you will definitely be limiting your capababilities. So, if a portable USB solution is what you are looking for to replace your PCI or PCMCIA card, there really is no better option than the 6015 or 6016:

I hope this helps. Have a Great Day!
