how to read encoder counts from an onboard programming?

If an onboard program is used to control a servo motor, how can host computer read back encoder counts? Any example code is available for this application?

There is nothing special in this use case. You still can use the same read position function on the host as if the the whole program was running on the host.
Please provide more information if you are experiencing any problems (which board, what software, driver version, error number,...)
