PCI/FW-7344 Motion controller either isn't found or when it is, MAX crashes depending on which version of NI-Motion, DAQ and Motion Assitant I use.

I can not get either of my pci or fw 7344 controllers to work on my Desktop PC. I am attempting to run Labview 7.0  I believe I have tried every version of Flexmotion, NI-Motion, Daq drivers, MAX and Motion Assistant around. The problem is that either the hardware isn't found or when it is, as soon as I click on something in MAX it crashes. I've tried the "create new" in MAX when you right click on device drivers and that doesn't work. I would really like it if someone has an idea of what software / driver versions I should run of the above stated.

Current PC config is:  Pentium 4 - 2.8 Ghz, 4 Gb Ram, Matrox Pahelia Video card (agp), PCI-7344 and FW-7344 (Firmware version 6.something)

Thanks - raymond

You have a PCI-7344 controller, and you are not able to initialize, that what I understand from your message. First of all the sequence of right installation is as follows:

1. Install Labview

2.Install MAx

3.Install NI-Daqmx7.3 or later

4. Install NI-motion driver

5.Install the hardware, and you must be connected to the internet, so the software will be installed automatically.

6. Also try to update firmware, by updating the ni-motion driver, and then go to MAX and click PCI-7344, and then in the right window click the firmware tab, and then click update firmware.

And see the result.

I am using Labview 7.0   I read somewhere in the knowledge base that the FW-7344 won't work with NI-Motion 7.1 and later.   It will only work with 7.0 and earlier (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/7752E1A92F7F28588625714F004CE908). Will Ni-Daqmx7.3 work with this? Which version of MAX - Latest and greatest? Thank you for the reply. I will slick it all and start over accordingly following your install steps. I'll wait to see if you post what versions I should use first though. Thank You - raymond

MAx 4.1 or 4.2, and NI-DAQmx7.3 is good, but for me I use 8., but that will ni affect any thing, I think NI-DAQ7.3 will be better for you since you use LabView 7.0, and inform me if there is any progress

Have a nice day

Finally got it to work with NI-MOTION 7.2  I read alot about the different versions and found that NI MOTION 7.2 is about as far as you can go if your using Labview 7.0  I also found that you need MAX version 4.0 for it to work. It also make a big difference in what order you do things. I would slick everything and start from scatch. I learned NOT to install any of the NI-Daq software that came with Labview 7.0  I would let the NI-Motion do that for me. I also found that I needed to go into the hardware system properties and make sure the previous FW-7344 driver was removed. Then I would make sure the pc had the driver version that came with whatever version of NI-Motion I was installing. I found that Max 3.whatever kept causing a "NIPAL***.***" file loading error to occur.  Here's a question though - just by coincidence I am going to get the latest version of Labview Full developement software. Will the Fw-7344 controller work with it? I guess I 'll have to start doing a bunch more reading - arrrrhhhhhh!  Thank you for your help though guys, I appreciate it!

I am having the same problem with  FW-7344 not showing up in MAX. I have labview 2009, NI-Motion 7.0 and MAX 4.6 running on WinXP. Any suggestions? I hope I do not have to uninstall and then reinstall everything...

Hey aaajones,

You can try upgrading to NI Motion 7.1. It seems that Motion 7.0 and the FW-7344 have a compatibility issue in certain cases.

If the same thing happens in 7.1 please see following KnowledgeBase Article titled FW 7344 Not Detected in Measurement & Automation Explorer with Motion 7.1 or Later.
