Controlling Brushless maxon DC motrs using NI 6221 PCI Daq card

Well, guys i may have the same problem,

I have the PCI 6221 Brushless EC maxon motor and an EPOS driver.

Question : They provide the example on how to control the motor using the serial communication, but unfortunately they lack of documentation, and i can't understand the example program, is there any complete documentation about the example, and i also want to use other modes (velocity, torque, etc) ?

second : What does the I/Os in the epos used for? is it possible to just command the driver using that I/O (digital or analog I/Os)  to control the motor, because if i want to make a real time system, its nearly impossible to still utilizing the serial communication right?

Hello Nandha,

Since Maxon developed the driver, I would recommend directing your questions to them regarding details and documentation for the driver/example program.   You are correct that using serial communication in a real time system is not the most efficient setup.  I would concur with Jochen that a DAQ board is not the recommended method for controlling a motor.  You could also look into using our PID toolkit, but this would be software-timed. I hope this helps.

But do you know where i can find those VI's, i kinda need those for my research, currently my research is in humanoid robotic (and also helping for haptic research), so it would

take time to just learn Labview, but if i can lay my hand on those modules, then it kinda can help to speed up.

Anyway, I'am asking you a question because i thought that you've already been using EPOS previously, my goal is actually to control the EPOS dirrectly from PC.

My EPOS is 24/5 model which has 6 digital inputs, 4 digital outputs and 2 analog input. As i reckon that these things is for programming purposes, so if i can program these

I/O so i can directly control the EPOS not from serial communication.

Do you know how can i find out these things from? because i've been reading the manuals for hours and still can't find out how (or maybe i'm just to dumb enough to understand).

And i've already ask the Maxon directly but still there is no response yet.

And secondly, do you know where i can find how to display 3D models using LabView, my labview is 7.1. I heard that someboddy can use 3D models from solidwork to being displayed and controled in Labview. Thanks.
