780068-01 NI NEMA 17 Stepper Motor dual shaft - recommended encoders?

Does NI have any recommended encoders to go with the new stepper motors being offered?
 
I am looking at the above listed part number for a motion project and want closed loop control.  Thank you.

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for posting to the National Instruments discussion forums.

For the NEMA 17 Stepper Motor, we recommend the HEDS-55xx family of encoders from Avago (Agilent).  You can purchase these from US Digital:

When choosing your encoder, please keep in mind that the shaft diameter for the NEMA 17 Stepper Motor is 5 mm.

What is the recommended mounting option for the NI motor encoders suggested?

Hi Ryan,

The NEMA 17 Stepper motor has a 3-screw encoder mount configuration, which is standard for the Avago HEDS-55xx encoder as well.  The mounting ears option for the encoder should not be necessary with this motor.

Also, you will want to make sure you purchase the dual shaft option for the NEMA motor.

Seems like US Digital no longer sells the Avago encoders - they have their own line now...

 

E2 and E5 from US Digital can replace the HEDS-55xx series Avago
