Problems with device drivers CD installation...

Hello,

MAX and maybe all NI device drivers stopped to work after I upgraded a XP based PC with the drivers delivered with the new Measurement Studio 8.1.2 package.

It was a same situation with an other Windows 2000 based PC, into which I made a fresh DAQmx installation from the same device drivers CD.

After that I removed the device driver installation from the Win2000 machine and installed NI’s previous drivers (Ver. 2007.08) and that PC started to work…

But I did not succeeded to roll back by WinXP machine.. (back to ver. 2007.08). Now I installed the newest drivers into it again without a better success. Please see the attached dialog box which appears in MAX…

I have not yet tried to play with our Vista machine...

BR,
Ilkka

Hello!

There is probably a curroption in the Drivers.
Here a link with a list of things you can do to resolve a MAX Database corruption:

Ilkka -

National Instruments has very recently discovered an issue in NI-DAQmx 8.6.0f12, which is included on the November Driver CD.  In some cases, this issue can corrupt your configuration data in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) during an upgrade of NI-DAQmx.

National Instruments is aggressively working on addressing this issue and will send out an official communication to all affected customers in the very near future.

In the short term, National Instruments recommends that you do not install any of the following drivers from the November Driver CD on any machine on which a prior version of these drivers has been installed.

  • NI-DAQmx 8.6
  • NI-DCPower 1.1.2
  • NI-DMM 2.7.2
  • NI-FGen 2.5
  • NI-HSDIO 1.5.2
  • NI-RFSA 2.0.6
  • NI-RFSG 1.3
  • NI-Scope 3.4
  • NI-Switch 3.6.1

We apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused.

Hi Ken and David,

thanks for your replies. My database was really corrupted.. I think.

MAX started to work after I deleted C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\MAX\Data\ folder.

All settings are gone but those are in an other computer which is not yet upgraded... (I wait for your instructions...)

Have a nice day,
Ilkka

The recommended coarse of action is

  1. Export your MAX configuration from the machine that you did not install the November Driver CD on
  2. Uninstall all of the National Instruments device drivers that I listed above and MAX, from the machines on which you installed the drivers from the November 2007 Device Drivers CDs
  3. Use the August 2007 (or earlier) Device Drivers CD to reinstall the device drivers on those machines
  4. Import the MAX configuration on the machines with the newly-installed August 2007 Device Drivers CD

You should also discard all of the November Device Drivers CDs.

You should receive an official communcation from National Instruments with more information on this issue within the next couple of days.

In your first post, you stated "But I did not succeeded to roll back by WinXP machine.. (back to ver. 2007.08). ". Does this mean that you attempted steps 2 & 3 that I listed above, but were unable to complete them? If so, what problems did you encounter?

Yes David,

I did successfully all steps you recommended.

I think that the problem in my first post was that there were corrupted MAX configuration files in my WinXP machine. Those were not fixed or removed automatically when I tried to roll back.  But now everything is OK after I imported good configuration files from the "not upgraded machine".

Have a nice day,
Ilkka
