Hello,
My C# application (VisualStudio 10, 4.0 .NET platform) needs to communicate with external equipment via DataSockets. I don't need any controls or forms available in NI Measurement Studio. So I am interested in DataSocket communication only.
I would luike to minimize my expenses for software purchase. Then what is the minimum amount of software I need no buy from NI in order to be able to provide DataSocket connection?
If I still need to buy the whole Measurement Studio product for that, which edition provides DataSockets? Would Standard edition be sufficient?
Thanks in advance.
Mihej

Hi Mihej,
DataSocket should be included with the Standard Edition of Measurement Studio, so that would be the cheapest option for you I believe (it's quoted on our site as starting from $480). You can take a look at this article, Integrating the Internet into Your Measurement System - DataSocket Technical Overview, and check section 10. How Do I Get DataSocket. It also comes with LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI.
I hope this helps!

Hello Courtney,
Are you sure that datasocket is included with the Standard Edition of Measurement Studio 2010 SP1?
I have installed Standard Edition and have got a problem while trying to use datasocket functionality in my C# Project.
1) If I try to add Reference to the project I get the following error:
2) If I try to use datasocket functionality directly in the code, then I get following message:
Thank you in advance for the reply!
Best regards,
Mikhail.

Hi Mikhail,
I'll look into this further as the specs on the Measurement Studio site aren't very clear about DataSocket. Did you download the evaluation version of the standard version?

Hello, Courney.
Basically we have decided to buy Measurement Studio Standard Edition 2010 SP1 after you told me that Standard Edition is enough for working with DataSockets.
I.e., it is not an evaluation version, it is an installation with normal licence.
Do I understand correctly, that the only way to get DataSocket functionality is to upgrade Standard Edition to Professional (Enterprice) Edition?
Best regards,
Mikhail.

Hey mkalinkin,
Sorry for the delay - I will get in touch with our R&D department to determine whether or not this error is expected, or if documentation on our website needs to be updated. I just wanted to let you know that I am still working on things and will send you a message to let you know what I determine and what we will need to do to get you up and running.
