Encoder can't keep up

I tried to read out an encoder on my NI PCIe-6321 board and noticed that the encoder isn't able to deal with fast rotations, i.e. if I speen the wheel that is attached to my encoder somehow fast, the encoder can't keep up and the measured position gets out of sync very fast.

I use the examples MeasAngularPositionBufferedCont_ExtClk and GenDigPulseTrain_Continuous examples with a pulse train frequency of 1kHz. Do I need to increase the external clock frequency? How does the counter configured as encoder internally work? Why does it need an external clock? Shouldn't the encoder counter simply count up eges?

Hi, lcm0

Please post your question to the Multifunction DAQ forum. http://forums.ni.com/t5/Multifunction-DAQ/bd-p/250

I think you will receive more insights there.
