my NI-compliant IEEE 1394 camera is not recognized and Vision Assistant scripts can not be transformed into Labview VI

I have sucessfully activated on my PC under windows XP PRO the following licenses : Labview 8.0 Full dev. Syst IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 Vision Assistant 7.1 NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 camera 2.0.1 my camera is a AVT MARLIN F131-B monochrome camera supported by Labview. this camera is corectly connected on an IEEE 1394 port and powered trhrough a Y cable. I can grab an image using another image software (Common Vision Blox by Stemmer Imaging). First Problem : Nevertheless, my camera does not appear in the device list using Measurement Automation Explorer. As a consequence, the camera is not seen in Vision Assistant. Second Problem : If a try to transform a Vision Assistant script into Labview code, a dialog box answers that i first need Labview 6.1 or higher version and Imaq 7.1. These conditions are satisfied, so why does Vision Assistant asks for it ? Thank you for your technical support. Yves LUCAS Vision and Robotics lab. Hi,
the 2nd problem (Vision Assistant 7.1 and  LV 8 -> the error message is a little bit dizzying...)  occurs, because Vision Assistant  is/was for  LV 7.x and not for LV 8.  I think, you have therefore 2 options, either to upgrade Vision to 8.0 or to use LV 7.1 to generate LV code, afterwards mass-compile the vi's in LV 8.
For this issue, please contact your local office to clarify the circumstances!

Do you see the IMAQ1394 device in MAX?
If it's possible to expand the IMAQ 1394 device entry, make a right click on the expanded device and change the driver from "Standard 1394 Desktop Camera" to "NI-IMAQ 1394 ...."

Hope this helps,
ThSa

thank you for the solution to first problem : so it was only a version compatibility problem ( I thought that Labview 8 ensured ascendent compatibility with vision assistant 7.1. For the second problem : the fact is that no vision device appears at all in the MAX device list. So, i can not expand any item ... What can i try more now ? YLUCAS.

I would suggest that you try to plug the 1394 device in another slot and to restart the PC.
If this doesn't help, unplug the 1394 device and reinstall the imaq-1394 driver.

the problem is that no other IEEE port is available on my PC. I need a small size plug to connect the Y cable (camera Power + video signal) and the other IEEE port is a big size one. But I can try using a (female/male) size transformer which i dispose of. A strange fact is that in MAX device list, when i choose to add on object (right-clic with the mouse) many devices are proposed : PXI, GPIB, Motion .. but not vision device at all. YLUCAS

The hardware list doesn't provide vision devices, because in this list it's possible to declare external hardware (e.g. chassis) and to simulate DAQ devices (if you have installed the correct driver)...
The imaq1394 should detect automatically within MAX.

Try to reinstall the imaq 1394 driver and let me know the result...

Hello I come back to you after some busy time. I have discovered the source of part of my problems : concerning the impossibility to transform Vision Assistant scripts into Labview VIs - An old version of Labview was still installed on the PC and when installing NI-Vision, some libraries were copied into Labview 6.1 directory. I transferred manually some libraries (Vision) and after that it become possible to obtain Labview code from vision scripts. Then I completely uninstalled all Labview applications and after installing Labview 8.0, the scripts are also converted. Another problem subsists : the vision function palettes are not all activated - From the block diagram window, I can only access to the vision utilities palette but the others (Image processing, machine vision) are not displayed. I can access directly to the functions inside the vi.lib directory but it not so convenient. What can I do to correct this problem ? Concerning the camera IEEE, I had a look on the troubleshooting tips for IEEE 1394 cameras on your website : Firewire boards which do not have OHCI chipset do not show up under the device manager. It is the case here so I suspect that i should install another 1394 board. The IEEE camera is not visible only because the Fireboard itself is not recognized. I install Labview on a PC with different Fireboard model to verify the Fireboard show up this time. Best Regards and Thanks for your help. Y. LUCAS IUT Mesures Physiques Orleans University France

It was my fault, i did not remember to told you, that only boards with an OHCI chipset will show up in MAX, sorry!
For the other problem, there is a KB on web:
