motion tracking usb Dynamixel, robot

Hello all,

I've been looking though alot of the posts on USB Cameras, NI-VISION and object tracking. I'm building a robot with 2 arms and a pan/tilt head (hopefully).

Im using dynamixel actuators to power the linkages on the arms - no hassle with that and im trying to have a pan/tilt simple robot head that will track simple movement.

Im placing the robot in the college hallway near the engineering sign. My objective is for the robot to follow somebody walking down the hall and if they stop - I would like the pan and tilt control of the motors to stop aswell. What im trying to say is - the motion tracking doesnt have to be perfect.

At the moment - I can control the dynamixels whatever way i want, I can take in frames from the USB camera and do some simple image subtraction.

What i need now is for the image algorithm to tell the actuators to go left or go right ,etc.  I'm thinking i need to break the screen up into 9 sections - center, north, north-east etc and do some BLOB identification. So for example if the BLOB is in the west part of the screen i need to move the camera to the right. I hope im making some sense here but that you for any advice that you can give. I have labview 8.5 at the moment so if you have any idea or have a VI that you could share - if its possible do you have it in 8.5 or a screenshot would work.

Thank you for your help.

-Tim

Hi Tim,

Take a look at following example for the First Robotics Competition. While you do not have the library's need to run the example, you can use the algorithm for reference.
