machine vision software

Hello everybody,

Can somebody please help me to find the best possible solution for my application? I’m thinking to buy Compact Vision System and I will probably buy one (or few) of NI recommended cameras with equipment also. But, right now I have a few doubts about software. There are few possibilities to pick.

Possibility that I’m considering is:

-LabVIEW Basic (if I understood correctly LabVIEW is required?)

-NI Vision Development Module Ver 8.2.1, Includes 1 Year SSP

-NI Vision Run-Time License

-NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 Camera (because I will use the fire wire cameras)

Is it selection valid? Do I need anything else? What is the purpose of NI Vision Run-Time License? Any other suggestions?

I’m interested about price of the software overall.

Thank you for your assistance.

With kind regards

Tommy

Hey there,

Right well you are are on the right track but I have some good news and some bad news for you.

Bad news:
You will actually need the RT module for LabVIEW as the CVS runs a realtime operating system.  It is also recommended that you have at least Full or Pro version of LabVIEW.

Good News:
You do not need the 1394 license or the runtime license as these are bundled with the CVS.
You can buy the RT module with the Vision Development module for a combination price of around £2200.

Hope this helps you out.

If you want to buy all this to make 1 vision system, your budget is going to explode.

If it is possible with your application, I would go for a CVS with Vision Builder for Automated Inspection, so you don't need to buy labview neither Imaq Vision.

He's right you know,

That is also a good option...
You would just need the CVS and VBAI 3.0.1

I’m working at University as a teaching assistant. One of our research areas is vision systems and we are very interested to use NI software in our class and research process. So, for me it’s quite important to have good equipment with many capabilities. Because of that, I decided to pick NI Vision Development Module together with LabVIEW.  It is possible that we will use LabVIEW in other class activities also (not Machine Vision only).

If you know, please tell me what about licences? My Faculty has intention to share this NI software among Faculty departments and chairs. Do I must to buy software with licences to provide software sharing?

Ok, my final choice with respect to yours suggestions is:

-LabVIEW Full

-LabVIEW RT Vision Development Bundle

-NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 Camera

Second suggestion (Vision Builder for Automated Inspection)

is very interesting also and I will mention it to my boss J. Thank you for pointing me to the cheaper solution.

P.S. Of course, I will grade your answers maximum. You disserve it ;).

Hi again,

You still don't need the IEEE 1394 license as it comes bundled with the CVS.  As for pricing I would suggest that you call up your local branch and ask about how much licenses are and the licensing options

Our number is (01635) 572 410 and you need to tell the Customer Services Representatives that you need some advice on licensing.  For academic accounts we do some discounts on both hardware and software, so I would give them a ring.

It would be best to ask for Kostas (our University specialist) and mention that you have been advised to call him by Adam (AE from the UK).  I'll pass the information up.  If Kostas is not there any other Internal Sales Representative will be able to help.

Just out of interest. Which university are you from?

Thanx

AdamB

Hi Tommy

With regard to the CVS system and the associated software, please do not forget that National Instruments offers 75% discount on the software and 10% on the hardware

to academia. We also provide Faculty licenses for group installations.

If you ring National Instruments UK & Ireland at 01635572400 or e-mail info.uk@ni.com we will be able to provide you with the details.

I hope that helps,

Hi AdamB,

Thank you for your assistance. You were very helpful.

I’m from University of Zagreb, Croatia, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture.

I know that my local NI representative is from Slovenia which is near Croatia. I contacted  them a few days ago but they didn’t respond yet. So, I decided to use this forum to ask some thing I would like to know.

@ Mr.  Kostas

It is great news that NI offers discount on the hardware and on the software to academia. I will surely contact you soon by the phone or via e-mail (probably via e-mail) to get more details.

I look forward to hear from you soon.

With kind regards

Tommy

Just info … I was contacted from my local NI representative and my Faculty bought all recommended software for our application. My next step is to choose adequate hardware.

Thank you for your previous assistance.
