finding beginning and ending coordinates of an edge

Hello Guys,

I am trying to find two points:

1. top left

2. bottom left

on one of the pictures, i colored the section of interest to see if that would yield better results on the vision assistant, but i haven't been successful in finding the edge.

in my application, i need to come down and shave a portion of the top (shiny) part starting from the edge.

Is it practical to always color the surface of the part you want to trim?  That would open up several simple techniques.

If you can mark the area of interest, you can filter on the color of the marking, or, better yet, use a fluorescent marking system, and illuminate with UV light.. Only the mark will show up and likely have crisp edges.  Blob tools can be used to locate upper left and lower right corner.
