Hello forum,
I'm having trouble getting external triggering to work in MAX with my AVT pike F032BC camera. I've been able to get the camera to work both in labview and MAX (at 800mbps using 1394b firewire) using software triggering, but I cannot get the external triggering to work. Everytime I try to chance the configurations in MAX to trigger mode (either mode 0,1, or 15; and either low or high trigger setting), it just times-out when I press grab.
I have a hirose 12 pin connector connected to it, with the trigger (pin 4) and GND (pin 1) connected to a TTL pulse generator (low 0V high 5V; a trigger box that has worked with an different camera).
Any ideas why this would be happening? Also, does anyone know of documentation for setting up external triggering with AVT camera?
thank you!
veritas
p.s. I have also tested it with the NI example, triggered grab, but it also times out, or automatically reverts to the trigger "off" option when I start running the program.
Without triggering, everything else seems to work fine.

Hello Veritas,
the trigger input signal needs to be connected o pin 4 & 6. Pin1 is the GND for the camera power supply.
You can find the pinout and more information in the camera manual and the hardware installation guide on the Pike download website.
The timeout should of course be set higher than the expected delay between the external trigger events.

Thank you for the link and information.
when I looked at the specs for the hirose connections, I saw this:
1 External Ground
2 External Power (+8 ... +36 V DC)
3 GP Output 4
4 GP Input 1 (Default: -)
5 GP Output 3 (Default: Busy)
6 GP Output 1 (Default: IntEna)
7 Input GND
8 RxD RS232
9 TxD RS232
10 Output Power (max. 36 V DC)
11 GP Input 2 (Default: -)
12 GP Output 2 (Default: Follow GP Input 2)
This makes me think that I should be connecting pin1 and pin7, not pin 6? however, when I connected to pin1 and 7, i got the same error (perhaps 0V to 5V isn't in the range of the camera triggering?, I'll take a look again at the documentation, just making sure I didn't confuse the pins)
thanks again,
veritas

Use pin 7 (I/O ground) and pin 4 (GPI1) for the trigger connections. Tyr it, you'll like it 🙂
Refer to pgs 54-55 in the manual:

oh my, yes, I meant pin 4, not pin 1 (notably, it was sent B.C. , before coffee 😉
the triggering works.
thank you both!

veritas:
I told you you would like it. 🙂
Glad to have been of assistance.
