Why is there static in my IMAQ image.

I am using the aquire vi to determine strain on a plastic specimen. My pixel distances are fine until I turn on a motor to stretch the specimen. At this point there is a lot of static in the picture. The camera itself is about a foot and a half away from the motor, and had a metal sheath around its cable. Is there some obvious reason why I am getting this noise?

This sounds like line noise. Are both the camera and the motor plugged into the same outlet? The motor is creating noise that is affecting the camera.

The simplest solution is to isolate the camera power source from the motor. I think a battery backup UPS might do the trick.
