Strange behaviour with MAX

Hi,

Have been experiencing strange behaviour with MAX with the newly installed Pixelink Camera PL741 with the NI IMAQ IEEE1394 IIDC Digital CAmera drivers installed. For the first acquisition i did for the day, there is always a need to readjust the gain and brightness setting even though the setup was not changed from the previous day. I believe that it could be due to some subtle differences in the illumination condition etc. However, for the subsequent tries, I would have to reset the camera values back to the original settings I have set for the previous day. I am wondering whether anyone is facing the same problem?

THanks for your help!

Hi Water,

The behavior you described sounds very strange.  A couple of quick questions:

1.  What version of the NI IMAQ for IEEE 1394 cameras are you using?
2.  Does this behavior happen even after you save the configuration in MAX?
3.  Does this only happen with the PL741 or have you seen the same thing with other IEEE 1394 cameras?

Hi

1.  What version of the NI IMAQ for IEEE 1394 cameras are you using?

Currently using versiion 2.0.0

2.  Does this behavior happen even after you save the configuration in MAX?

The problem happened just on the first trial of the day. The settings used in previous day seem to be incorrect. At first, I am wondering whether it is because that there are some environmental changes eg lighting and causes the settings to deviate. However, the deviation seem to be higher than expected. But the problem seem to go away after the next few shots or initialisation of MAX

3.  Does this only happen with the PL741 or have you seen the same thing with other IEEE 1394 cameras?

Have not tested other camera yet. Will try it out

Thanks for your help!

We could try upgrading to 2.0.1 to see if that fixes the problem.

It could also be that the camera is in a default power-on state when you come back the next day and the camera registers haven't been reinitialized with the settings from the previous day or for some reason they may not be being saved in MAX.  Try clicking the save button immediately after configuring the camera to the correct lighting levels then shutdown your computer and restart it.  If the camera is back in the default state when you do a grab, try restarting one more time and before performing a grab click the save button.  This should tell us if the information is being to the registers or not.

Also, let me know if the other camera works properly.
