Pixel Link Camera Attributes

Hi,

Have recently acquired a Pixel Link AL-741. The camera is rated to do 100 frames at 640 x 480. I have try to selection this video mode in the acquisition parameter but I could not find it. In the MAX, the camera is set to use NI-IMAQ IEEE 1394 IIDC Digital Camera. The best mode that it can do is only at 60 frames at 640x480. So I am wondering whether is there a need to use separate driver in MAX to achieve this?

Thanks for your help!

BTW,

Does the DCAM specification IIDC 1.30 support frame rate above 60? I try to look through the specification... but the highest mode seem to suggest only a frame rate of 60...is this true?

Hello,

As you suspected, the DCAM 1.3 spec does not provide for frame rates above 60 fps.  That is why your camera is unable to capture faster than the 60 frames per second provided in MAX.

Hi,

Is there anyway to overcome this? Can I use other drivers instead of the NI IIDC v1.3 drivers? Actually I am thinking of improving the speed beyond 60 frames..

Also If I am using the NI IMAQ to program the application. Would it take the settings from the MAx? anyway I can go around it? I am thinking of doing some triggering application. Does it mean I will have to instead self develop the camera codes fro the manufacturer SDK?

Thanks for your help!

It might be possible for you to use the Format 7 Mode0 setting with a smaller resolution.  The manual for your camera states that it can support framerates above 100 fps with a window size of 640 x 480 when in rolling shutter mode.  This might make it possible for the camera to acquire at the higher frame rates you are looking for.  As a last resort you might be able to use the IMAQ 1394 Write Registers.vi function.  This will be more difficult because it will require you to know the address of the register you are accessing and the value to send it.
