PCI-8252 (firewire) optional power connector?

Hi,

I have a PCI-8252 (firewire card) and when installing in the PC I notice an additional power cable connector (allowing connection from PC drive power to the PCI firewire card). I would have just connected this but the wiring extension that came with the card is not compatible with the PC wiring.

I only have two cameras, so do I really need to connect the additional power cable? I guess it's optional, it's not even mentioned in the installation instructions.

TIA

As long as both cameras don't require much power, you should be fine.  I don't know what the total power available from the PCI bus is, but I suspect you will be fine.  Try both cameras at the same time, and if they work all is good.  Keep an eye out for "glitches" that might be related to limited power, though.
