PC for PCIe-1429

Hello.
In this document, http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/1FD6E5B5A08C1E0786256F9B0079D449
the motherboards for Xeon or Opteron are shown.
Is there any information about motherboards for Athlon 64?
Recently some motherboards for Athlon 64 with two PCI-Express x16 (for example, NVIDIA nForce 4 SLI X16 chipset) were released.
These system will reduce the cost of PC.

Hi,

I'm investigating now about compatibility between NI1429 device and Athlon 64.
Could you wait for a little more, please?

Hi,

I'm sorry for making it wait.

This link that you found is not all inclusive list of computers that can be used with the PCIe-1429. It is a list of computers that we have tested. Unfortunately, we haven't tested Athlon 64 yet. But I think in theory this should work on any motherboard.

One thing, I want you to take care about the BIOS problem. You don't have to use a Gigabyte motherboard because Windows will blue screed if it uses with PCI Express board.

If you need any other information or questions, please let me know.

Thank you,

Thank you.

Previously, my colleague tried Albatron K8X890 ProII for NI PCIe-1429.
This motherboard has PCIE x16 and x4 (of course it has actual x16 and x4 bandwidth).
First we installed the PCIe-1429 to x4 slot, but the motherboard did not recognize the PCIe-1429.
Then we installed the PCIe-1429 to x16 slot, and the PCIe-1429 was recognized.
In this case, however, VGA with convensional PCI (not PCIE) must be used and the available PCI slots on the motherboard decrease.
I'm not sure the reason... maybe compatibility between these boards.
If it is compatibility between the chipset (VIA K8T890) and PCIe-1429, we may need to avoid the chipset.
Similar situation is known between SATA HDD and SATA controller.
PCIE and SATA use serial bus, so I guess this kind of bus sometimes causes the problem of compatibility especially in early days.
This is why I would like to know the verified motherboards.

Predicting which machines will work and which will not is very difficult. Due to BIOS issues, a chipset may work on motherboard vendor X, and not on motherboard vendor Y. It could also mean that motherboards from a particular vendor may have difficult results.

I'm sorry for uncertain answer, but that's all for your question.

Yes, I understand the limitation... it is often difficult to avoid such kind of problem.
Now we are planning to use Tyan K8WE, I think it's the best solution.
Thank you for your reply.
