MAX 4.2: Problem connecting to the database

I have been getting the same sort of messages from a NI MAX 4.2.0.3001 installation on a new Dell laptop. 

After a bit of time consuming messing about un-installing and re-installing software, I found that if I disabled McAfee security center (I did this by completely removing it, the target machine is not connected to the internet) all my problems went away and MAX operated exactly as expected.

So I guess that McAfee was preventing the database service from starting correctly.  I ended up completely removing McAfee because I couldn't find a way of allowing individual services access whilst blocking others - the McAfee package seems like a pretty blunt tool

One more note on the NOD32 issue... The solution in the KB might theoretically pose a security risk, while you in fact disable all IMON's scanning on ports other than the standard HTTP ones. It is sufficient to exclude the applications nimax.exe, nimxs.exe and nisvcloc.exe (located in windows\system32 folder) from scanning. You can do this in the "Miscellaneous" tab. After that, you can turn the scanning on other ports back on. And restart Windows.

Maybe the KB article should also be updated...

Hello.
I had same problem with MAX and NOD32. I tried to set those 3 files in exclusion and restart windows - but error was still there... Only if you uncheck that autodetect option and restart MAX will work. I wonder if it is possible to set only 3580 port for not being checked ?

I'm sorry the exclusion doesn't work for you. For me it works quite fine. Maybe you can contact NOD32 support with your question.
