How to set binning and exposure time with IMAQ functions?

I am trying to find out how to set binning and exposure time.  I use a PCI-1428 frame graber.

This depends more on the camera than the framegrabber.  What brand and model of camera are you using?  The commands for setting these parameters are probably in the camera manual.  You will need to send them to the camera using the serial connection.  You can set these up using the camera file editor.

Thanks.  I am really new to all this. 

The camera we are using is Imperx IPX-2M30-L.  I just checked that I could set vertical binning by "svm b".

Could you give me some clue of how do I initiate the communication and send "svm b" over to the camera?

You can use the camera file editor.  It can be downloaded from the NI website.  It will allow you to make changes to your MAX configuration file, including adding serial commands for camera control.
