Error -1074396080

When I try to use some of the Vision utilities I often get an error such as the one below. With this one I was trying to perform a histogram stretch. The input image is a simple BMP. What's wrong? I've worked with BMP images before with no problem.

Error -1074396080 occurred at IMAQ Math Lookup
  Invalid image type.

HI Nasa,

Histogram stretching is applied on grayscale images. Did you use a 24 bits Bitmap Image (coloured). If so, first perform colour plane extraction, then do the histogram stretching.
