Camera resolution needed to detect diameter change

Hi,

I am a complete newbie to Vision Acquisition with LabView and have a question concerning which camera to purchase. I have purchased the NI PCIe-8236 frame grabber and now I am in search of the correct camera to detect changes in diameter on the order of millimeters. I will be using the Vision Acquisition Software provided with the frame grabber. Does anyone know what will be my limiting factors? Is there a minimum number of pixels that the diameter would have to cross before the software noticed it? Is there a calculation I can do to determine the correct resolution and/or fps?
