Can someone provide a step-by-step guide to installing NI-VISA (and all the necessary supporting drivers) on Ubuntu 13.04? Is this even possible?

There's some step-by-step instruction:
https://forums.ni.com/t5/Linux-Users/How-to-Install-GPIB-driver-NI-488-2-on-Ubuntu-7-10/td-p/3510307
for old version of Ubuntu. I'd suggest to follow that, but using newer version of our software.. and google around to solve any probs you might encounter.
Sorry, NI still doesn't have official support Ubuntu ![]()

The best way probably is to try it step by step, and whenever you encounter a problem, post the error messages here. For most things we already have a solution, I just dont know exactly which ones apply to U 13.04...
Start by
* make sure you have a 32bit installation (kernel does not matter, userland does)
* check that the kernel sources are installed, ideally 3.6.x or older
* download separately the newest NI-KAL version from NI
* try to install that first (it is needed by NI-VISA, and an old-ish version is included in the NI-VISA tarball)
