Not responding pci dio96 when not logged on as user with administrator rights

In my new computer I've installed the following pcb-cards:

2 x pci-dio96
GPIB0 AT-GPIB/TNT
2 x pci-MXI-2 cards for VXI version 3.3.1

software: Labwindows/CVI 8.0.1

When I'm logged on as a user with administrator rights, I can run test panels in the MAX, both in NI-DAQmx and Traditional NI-DAQ the 2
DIO-96 cards can be tested.

When I'm logged on as a normal user, I can only run the tests when I choose  NI-DAQmx devices. At Traditional NI-DAQ the test panel button is grey.

I allready tried to change the permissions in the registry, but that makes no difference.
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\CurrentVersion\TestPanels)

Can anyone help me?

Hello FonzB,

This is as you can imagine a problem of lack of permissions. I need to know what your file system is (NTFS or FAT32) in order to give you a first troubleshooting step.

Hello FonzB,

The following steps should help you to resolve your problem.

Directions for a Windows XP machine with a NTFS file system

  • Log onto the computer as an administrator
  • Browse to the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX directory
  • Right-click the MAX folder and select Properties
  • Click the Security tab, and click the Add button
  • Type in the user name and click OK
  • Give the user Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, and Read permission
  • Click Apply and then OK

If you have several different users and want all users to use the DAQ Assistant, repeat the above steps but type everyone for the user name. The above steps are written for Windows XP with a NTFS file system. For previous Windows versions, the procedure will be very similar but may not be exactly the same.

  • Keep me informed if it solves your problem or not. (it badly doesn't work on all computers... so that I might need to give you other information if it doesn't work)

    Best regards,

    Hello Mathieu STEINER,

After changing the user rights from User to Debugger Users and adding the mentioned rights in MAX it works!
    Thank you very much!

    Best regards,
