How to switch editor from overstrike to insert mode?

Solved!
Go to solution

Somehow I have switched my editor into overstrike mode.  How do I get back to insert mode?

When I type new text it overwrites existing text instead of being inserted into it. The position marker has changed from a vertical bar to a small rectangle.

I must have inadvertently pressed some hot key combination but I don't know what it is. I can't find this in the documentation.

thanks!

You can switch between various selection modes by pressing <Ctrl-Insert>, or by clicking on the symbol in the status line, see also here

I found it. Thanks!

The insert/overwrite status is shown in the status line at the bottom of the editor window. Just click on the status and in changes.

Even simpler, press Ins keyboard key to switch between Insert / Overwrite (that key normally is above Del key, near Home and End keys).

Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.
