How to read thermocouple temperature with SCC-TC02 in Lab Windows with SC-2345?

Hey, I am trying to read thermocouple temperatures using SCC-TC02 and SC-2345.  I when I create a task looking like this one attached.

I am getting readings of like 600-800 degrees C in my office, and I am pretty sure its not that hot because I am still alive.  Can anyone help me out?  Thanks in advance.

Many potential pitfalls exist in TC temperature readings!

I don't know your background, so here are just a few basic points:

  • You are certain of the type of TC you're using (type K), and the polarity of the TC wires.
  • You have established a reliable cold junction reference point.
  • You have NOT introduced any third material junction (soldering or copper wire).

Please don't be offended by my simple approach, I've just witnessed too many TC mock ups

Hi krk30,

I can see by the waveform in the DAQ Asst. that the thermocouple is atleast reading repeatedly. Jeff T. did a really outstanding job of detailing several points that should be re-checked to be sure the sensor wiring was done correctly in this forum post.

Please post back if you are still experiencing measurement errors after considering that post and GeirA's good ideas.

Have a great evening!
