CVI 8.1.1 builds require install disk(s) to build distributions.

Hello all,

After upgrading several  NI apps to latest versions, CVI (currently 8.1.1) ask for the install disk for Labview, FPGA, etc. for each distribution. It is reasonable for the distribution to need the files but since the full application is resident on the computer should the install disk be required. Furthermore, if the install disk have to be used is it normal for each distribution to require the disk again. For the first distro, I selected the cache the files to local option.

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Hi Greg,

If you include NI drivers or support components in your distribution, at build time, you must provide the original installers so they can be copied into your distribution.  Even though you have already installed the applications to your machine, all the necessary installer files are not readily available, so you are prompted to provide the original distribution CDs.  Because it can be annoying to have to have the CDs on hand and manually switch them in and out of the drive, we do provide the option to cache the needed files locally, as you've already noticed.  Even if you use the caching option, it is possible that you may be prompted for the same CDs the first time you build each different distribution.  The reason is that when you cache the needed files, it only caches that subset of the products on the CD that are actually needed by your distribution.  If another distribution needs different or additional products/components, you will again be prompted for the CD.  I expect that this is what you are seeing.  If, on the other hand, you have two different distributions that include exactly the same drivers & components and you still get re-prompted for CDs, please let me know.  That would be a bug and should be fixed.

Hope this helps.
