I totally agree with Dennis. I have seen 3rd party test executives, years in the making, and not be nearly as good as TestStand. I have tried writing my own simple executive and found out that it would take a lot of time to create all the functionality I needed (such as disabling steps temporarily, jumping to another step upon current step pass/fail, pre and post step actions, passing variables, etc). Where I work now, there is a homemade test executive, it took years to develop to the point where it is now, and it is still far short of TestStand. How much is your time worth? I think TestStand is a wise investment.
