We are new to LV.

We would appreciate pointers on "TO WHAT EXTEND can one converts" a VI running on a local PC and operated by a local human operator sitting in front of his/her PC     to       having the same vi running on a 'server'  with the human user sitting in front of a remote PC connected over internet.

What tools are available to the above conversion task (local PC to remote PC via internet)?  Reading the documentation and seems like there are tools with names like 'web server', 'remote panel', etc.  What exactly are these tools' functionalities?

Also, to what extend are internet a limiting factors for the 'remote access'. Like, update rate, fast user response, etc.

We are aiming for displaying moderate amount of updating graph like the attached example (taken from LV 7.1 find example)

Does LV7.1 and LV8 any difference in 'remote access' over internet?

John,

You are correct that LabVIEW allows programmers to develop applications that can be hosted on one machine, and the front panel can be viewed and/or controlled via the internet.  Your internet connection speed may affect the rates at which your remote front panels can update.  However, my explanations won't be nearly as useful as the extensive amount of documentation we have on this subject on our website.  Please start with the following links:

These tutorials and help documents should give you more than enough information about how to set up remote front panels.  Feel free to search our Developer Zone for some example programs once you gain an understanding of this topic.  Best of luck and happy programming!
