web server not serving

Hi, I've got the web server running (6.0.2 & XP) on my machine - works great from here, but can't access from remote machine over internet. Using my dynamic IP address or localhost works good from here but IP address just times out from other computers. Able to ping OK and Firewall is fully disabled... even set the www folder to shared but still nothing. Anyone have a suggestion what could be causing this?

Paul,

The only thing I can think of is to check the security settings for the web server in Tools >> Options >> Web Server Browser Access. Are you letting other computers in? If not, you might get this error. Does it work from other computers inside of your firewall?
What operation are you doing to the VI? Are you doing '.snap?' or '.monitor?'?

Hi Randy, yes all computers are allowed access while I am testing to
(try) get it to work. This computer is at home so no other computers
behind firewall - just the built in XP firewall (turned off). I have
tried .snap?, .monitor?, and just a html file in the www folder, but
no luck. I am wondering if maybe my ISP somehow prevents me serving
pages? is this possible? thanks for your help. (also wondering why my
question not showing up on NI Developer zone but is on Google)

Paul,

It takes a couple of days to propegate through our search servers. Google just grabs every page.

It could be your ISP because I can do it from my house. It is a very interesting issue.

Thanks Randy - I'll try another ISP tonite and see if that works.

Also, controller I wish to present data from using LabVIEW has a DDE
server - documentation is very weak and I've no experience. Found a
couple of DDE examples on NI but nothing majorly helpful. Anyone know
where I can learn more? The Hardware is Innotech Genesis II with
Gen2DDE server - anyone able to assist?

Thanks, Paul.S

Randy,

We are having a similar problem. We have installed 6.1 on two different machines within our department and are able to access both web servers from within our LAN. However, from home I am unable to connect - the connection times out.

I have checked browser access rights and all browsers have full access. Additionally, I can ping both machines and establish FTP and NetMeeting sessions.

Is a static IP address required? Any further ideas?

Thanks!
Glenn

Things to check if using a router to route LAN packets across WAN/Internet:

* If your LAN to WAN router is using NAT (network address translation - where your network is hidden behind the one ip address) you cannot access LAN machine services by using the static IP address. You must connect to the machine using the LAN IP address.

* If you are running a web server from computer which is connected to a LAN using NAT, you must use the port direction feature of the LAN router to direct all HTTP (port 80) requests to the machine running the web server. Otherwise, HTTP requests to the static IP address do not get routed to the web server computer.
