viterbi decoding with de puncturing 7/8

Hi, I have to implement viterbi decoding at rate 7/8. Can anyone help me how to do it?

I found a viterbi decoding VI in labview RF library.  But I don't know how to set parameters accordingly to use it at a rate of 7/8.

If you know of any link that gives some detailed info of using this VI along with example Or anyone who has use it and would like to share their algorithm, I would be thankful.

I am using labview 2013.

Also tell me the difference between soft and hard viterbi decoding? On what basis do I make the selection? 

I have to program fpga using labview.
