via processor question

I'm in the potentially unenviable situation of having to implement a
LabVIEW 5 application on a system with the VIA cpu
(http://www.via.com.tw/en/apollo/PLE133.jsp). Anyone here have any
comments, good or bad, about the VIA Apollo chip with regards to LV 5.0.1?

Thanks!
Bruce

PS upgrading LV to something from the 21st century is out of the question
so don't even suggest it 😞

Hi,

Your weblink leads to info on the Via Apollo PLE133, which is a motherboard chipset rather than a CPU. If it's simply a case of having a motherboard with that chipset on then you'll need a set of drivers to ensure all the functions are running efficiently. If you're using Windows, the drivers will be either Hyperion or 4-in-1, depending on which OS version you use.

If you actually mean you've got a VIA processer such as the C3 (in which case the Apollo name doesn't apply), performance with LV5 will be dependent on how compatible the CPU is with existing x86 architectures. Haven't used a C3 based system myself, but I've always found the discussions at http://forums.viaarena.com a useful starting point whenever I've had issues or questions regarding VIA's hard
ware.

Hope this is of help,
James.
