vehicle radio control in LabView

Hello,

I am trying to control a vehicle radio functions (i.e: volume, channels, am/fm, seek function) via labview.  I was looking to use the Vector CAN card and driver to communicate to the radio.

Is this a good idea? and has anyone ever done this before? if so, what would be your advice?

Hello,

For the CAN card you are looking at using, how does it connect to your computer (Serial, GPIB, USB, PCI)?  IF it uses one of those buses it is possible to communicate to it using NI-VISA and LabVIEW.  The best option for automation for vehicles would be to use the NI-CAN products.  With the NI CAN products come the NI CAN driver which you can setup your control system by creating the messages to send on the CAN bus and then read and write to those certain channels from LabVIEW.
