I have a list of NIST servers in my VI, all of which I can open a connection to. The read from some fails, but others does not. Does anyone know why? I do notice many have a similar name, so maybe this has something to do with it.

Hi Greg
According to the NIST Time Servers page it looks like a few of the servers that are throwing errors aren't recommended because they're currently busy.

Why do you need to talk to so many NIST servers? Just curious.

To verify they are all correct . Just kidding. I was trying to connect to one and it didn't work, so I just started going down the list. When I realized some were responding and some weren't, I wanted to look into it further to see if there was a specific reason for this. I mostly just did it for my own knowledge so that in the future I wouldn't spend time trying to connect to servers that may not respond.

Like everything else on the internet, time servers are not guaranteed to be operational 100% of the time. There are as many reasons as there are tubes in the internet.
