updating labels

Dear All,

I am pretty new to LabView and tried to find any Posts on how to programmable change the labels of indicators or at least use the property node to change the visibilty of the caption, which for some reason just works after I manually change the indicator under the properties.

so my questions are:

Is there a possible way to change the labels in RunTime Mode? If yes how?

and

Why can you change the visibility of the caption just after you activated it once manually? Is that a bug and is there a fix?

Thanks in Advanced
Oliver

Hi Oliver,
You can't change the labels at runtime. If you want to change the text at runtime I suggest you hide the label and show the caption, this can be changed at runtime (using a property node).
About the problem regarding the visibility I can't tell you because I don't have LabVIEW here.
Hope this helps,
Daniel

This worked fine until LV 7.0, then stopped working in 7.1.
I think the change had to do with improving performance, but I don't remember the details.
If I remember correctly, NI did not consider this a bug at the time.

See image of example: (using LV8.2)

EDIT:  After reading tst's post, I'd better go back and check if I missed something.. 😮

Hi Daniel, Tst and Joe

Thanks for your fast responds.
I am using captions to write the but when i am automatically generating a array/cluster of indicators and want to change the captions to visible so i can change their Names. It is not really fun going through all 64 indicators and manually changing the properties manual
Smiley Sad to visible (the first time, after the first time it works automatically) sure strange it doesn't make sense, if you can imagine.

cheers Oliver

I read the post again, manually changed the caption, ran the VI, and the caption changed during runtime using property node & LV8.2.

See image.

Hi Olivier,

Just saw your post.

Can you provide a bit more details about the first time working or not working? And maybe post your code..??

I'm not sure what to say.  I duplicated your example and it works for me.

You're also using LV8.2 on WinXP.

Actually, I changed the caption text manually, then ran the VI which changed it at runtime.  That was to show that changing it or not had no effect.
However, I do have a question.  Are you changing properties of the boolean indicator elsewhere in the code?  Maybe you have a race condition (code at another place undoing what code was supposed to do... ok bad description of race condition. LOL! 😉 )

Here's the new pic.

 lol
that is correct but have you tried changing the visibilty without first manual turning the caption on?

this is where my problem starts
