Did you mean:

switch off ets

Hello

Is there a "nice way" to switch off computer with ETS on? The only way I know is to hit the power button, but that doesn't sound too good.

Best regards

What is ETS? Is it Educational Testing Services, Evangelical Theological Society, Electronic Transaction Systems, IEEE European Test Symposium, ...

Depending on which OS you're running you can typically call a shutdown command from a command line. For example, on Windows, you can use the "shutdown" command by calling it with the System Exec VI.

ETS is a RT target for LabView http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/13753.

Keyboard input is not available, and SysExec is not supported on this target.

Why would I like to shut down European Test Symposium? ;>

Hi souske

Do you want to switch the system of remotly? Otherwise the "normal" way to shut down an RT target is to push the power button. The reason you usually do a soft-off is to allow the OS to close up shop before the hardware powers down. The RT doesn't really need that (neither did DOS back in the day 🙂 Mind that I haven't yet worked with an ETS PC, just with LV RT embedded controllers, but those are just compact PCs so there shouldn't be that much of a difference.

Hi David

Well remotely or not you don't necessarily have to know if something is running in the background, so by hitting the power button you might actually kill something (apart from the OS). Besides if one is able to reboot be remote, why would it be not possible to shut it down in a "nice way"?

Hi souske

Everything running on an RT machine, kernel, drivers and so on is designed so that you can just shut it down, so the "nice" way to shut it down is by power off . As to how you can tell if an application is running that can be done by programatically (in the application) making a LED blink or you can tell by looking at the CPU load. Alternatively you could try using VI Server to query what is loaded in memory.

While it is possible to reboot the controller via the RT Restart Controller VI, there is at this time no way to shut it down the same way. If you really wanted to shut down you could try using a controller power strip (3rd party) that you can programatically order to turn off the power, but that is not any nicer than pressing the power button.

Best Regards
