starting a webserver

My problem is starting a webserver after I have created a n executable. The webserver works well if I am running my vi in development mode but after compiling the code the webserver would not start even though I have used the property node to start and root directory www for teh webserver. I am running Labview 6.1 on windws2000.
Second problem is FTPing the data file from local directory to the website server using FTP put VI. This VI come stuck and nothing comes out of it, I could see that by selecting highlight execute. This does not happen all the time, it sometimes works well for days and all of a sudden it stops- i have not compiled this VI yet. Is anyone who can help us out here?

When you say the server does not start, do you get an error? In addition what happens if you try to start it manually rather than programattically? What about if you just set the active enabled in the INI file?

Also I looked at the help for those proerties and if you try them on a remote PC you will get a permissions error. I have seen the same happen if youopen an application reference to the local hosts IP address.

As far as FTPing I am not sure the issue. If you open the Put VI is there a subVI that it gets stuck in. What happens if you try command line FTP, do you run into any problems there?

Hi Evan, Thanks for your answer- I do not get an error but if I went to view the front panel on the "http://" it is not there. I start the webserver programatically by setting the server active in the ini file as you said. But the things is, the problem only occurs when I am running the executabe file and it works fine if the vi is not compiled.
On FTPing side, the error I have seen is one of the sub-vi inside put -vi get stuck, the sub-vi is called FTP open data connection and the message is "could not establish connection". In some instances it does reconnect but it most instances it fails to reconnect. I am not sure if this is Labview problem or my network.

I got the same problem with WebServer! I followed the instructions under "How Do I Use Remote Panels with an Application (EXE) Built in LabVIEW 6.1?"
Link: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/3b2160b128ee09a886256b60006ffa66?OpenDocument

I do not get the image of the front pannel in the browser.
Any idea what's wrong? Thanks for your help

If the front panel is not showing up in the web page, there must be some kind of error message in its place. What is that message? It will usually be one of the following:

1. "The server is not responding."
2. "There was no response."
3. "A connection with the server could not be established."
4. "Internal Error: The server encountered an internal problem while processing the request."

As far as the FTP issue, it sounds more like a network problem, although a quick way to check this would be to try to manually FTP the same location when the error occurs again. If you can FTP manually, then it would indicate a software problem, and if you can't, it is definitely a network problem.

At the place where should be the front panel, "Panel herunterladen" (Something like "Loading Panel") is written. As the front panel is really simple (One boolean and one numeric indicator updated every second)
it should not take hours to load it!?!

Olivier,

You are correct -- if the VI is that simple, then it should certainly not take a long time to load. Do you happen to be using any additional modules with LabVIEW, such as the LabVIEW Real Time Module? Is the executable running from a PC or from a targeted real-time controller? Does the VI's remote panel work in the development environment for you as well? Do you have access to a later version of LabVIEW (7 or 7.1) that you can try to see if the problem persists?

I do have RealTime, Vision and DSC installed on my computer. I tried to run the vi on the same PC or an other one with a similar configuration. I also have LabVIEW 7.0,7.1 on my computer. I actually need to do this with an old software devlopped under LV 6.1.

I noticed that
http://192.168.222.222/.monitor?VI%20to%20see.vi
works without problem! Only the htm file created with the "Web publishing tool" did not work

Well, I'm glad to hear that you at least got it working. I know that there are some issues with remote panels, LabVIEW 6.1, and the Real Time module, but those issues have been fixed in newer versions of LabVIEW. Maybe that is what you are running into. Since you said that you have 7.0 and 7.1, I would recommend upgrading your application to 7.1. Everything in 6.1 should be fully functional in 7.1, so a simple mass compile would do the trick.
