You may want to elaborate a bit more in your problem description. I am not quite certain as to what you are trying to accomplish. Just as a general rule, clusters are more memory-intensive than scalar values, so if you are choosing between using a case structure to select scalar values, and somehow using a cluster, I would go with the case structure.
