read characters from file

The read characters from file vi must open a file. How do I close it once I am through with it?

I assume you are talking about LV 7.1 or earlier. Just open the VI and look at the BD. You will see that the VI will open the file, read and close the file.

The answer to your question I think that it's very simple.

In the attached picture you see two ways that you have to read the file. One it's direct and the vi open and close (second way in the picture). The other you have open, then read, at the end close.
